What's it all about? What we're trying to do is put together a network of people who help their local user group succeed and grow. AmigaSoc have undertaken this task throughout the whole of the UK and we have the help and support of the UGN who have undertaken this on a worldwide scale. We want to encourage Amiga owners to join their local user group if one exists, and if one doesn't exist we'll give them help and advice on how to set one up. Quite simply we want to bring the Amiga community together through local user groups.

Why should we register our user group with AmigaSoc? Firstly we'll add an entry for your user group to our on-line database so that potential new members can find out about you more easily. Secondly and more importantly unless we have contact details for your user group we can't get you involved in many of the activities we have planned and keep you up to date on the lastest news.

Do I need to register with the UGN as well? No. We're working with the UGN. In fact we're the official UGN representative for the UK. Any user groups that register with us will automatically also be registered with the UGN, unless they request not to, and likewise any UK user groups who register with the UGN will be added to the AmigaSoc database.

What if there's no user group near me? If there's no user group within easy reach of where you live then submit your details to our Lost Souls database. We'll put you in touch with other Amiga owners in your area and provide you with as much help and advice as you need should you wish to go one step further and form your own user group.

What's the difference between the AmigaSoc's user group database and the UGN's user group database? The only difference is AmigaSoc's user group database only carries information about user groups in the UK. The UGN hold information about worldwide user groups. The reason for this is simple. We want to make it as easy as possible for UK Amiga owners to find their local Amiga user group. Whilst the UGN database is a fantastic resource, many of the user group listed in are of no interest to UK residents.

What's the difference between AmigaSoc and the UGN? The UGN is a worldwide non profit organisation consisting of hundreds of user groups and thousands of members that was conceived with one single goal, to develop a network of people who help their local user groups succeed and grow. AmigaSoc is also a non profit organisation, however we only work within the UK. We believe that by keeping our sights focused on activities within the UK we can provide a better service to Amiga owners in the UK. This doesn't mean to say we are isolated from the rest of the world, quite the opposite as we take a very active interest in the Amiga community as a whole.

Why is AmigaSoc doing this, shouldn't there be a democratic vote on who represents the UK user groups? Right now we think the most important thing is to actually get a UK network of user groups in place. Once this network is in place then it may be desirable to democratically elect a representative. It should also be pointed out that we are only a representative of the UGN, whilst we will be working with UK user groups we will not actually be representing them, simply acting as a central point of contact.
